Mismanagement of your medications can occur in several ways such as:

• Taking the wrong dosage
• Taking your medication at the wrong time
• Forgetting to take your medication
• Forgetting that you have taken your medication already, then taking it again
• And so on…

Medication errors are a major cause of admissions to hospital.
In an effort to reduce such errors we offer a medication pack service for those having difficulties managing their medications.

 

What is a MEDICOPAK®?

Also called a Dose Administration Aid, it is a ‘blister’ or ‘bubble’ pack prepared onsite at Kingsley Village Pharmacy. It is divided into the seven days of the week, with four dosage intervals for each day. It contains all the medications for that week. All that is required is that the medications are to be removed from each separate blister and taken at the relevant time.

 

What are the advantages of a MEDICOPAK®?

• All of your medications for the week are in the one pack.
• No more storage of excess medications at home as all of your medications are kept at Kingsley Village Pharmacy and used to make the weekly pack.
• All of your prescriptions are stored on file with your medication.
• Convenient charging to a monthly account.
• Medicopak's® are perforated so that individual doses of whole days worth of medication can be removed from the Medicopak®, making them great for travelling.
• Medicopak's® are fully disposable so there is no returning empty medication packs, trays or folders to the pharmacy to be refilled.
• Medicopak's® are a calendar pack so you can clearly see whether a medication dose has been taken. Both sides of the Medicopak® are labeled with the days and dates of the week.
• Each individual blister has printed information on the backing indicating the date and time for that dose to be given, the patient's name, and the name of each medication in that blister.

 

So who is a MEDICOPAK® for?

Examples of people who may benefit from our Medicopak® service include:

• Those on multiple medications.
• Those who have complex medication regimes.
• Those who have memory impairment issues such as dementia.
• Those going into Respite Care Institutions.
• Those who have arthritic or other conditions that may limit their ability to open medication bottles/jars etc.

 

Is there a charge for a MEDICOPAK®?

Yes. At Kingsley Village Pharmacy we charge $4.00 per week for a single Medicopak®. If there are many medications or many dosage times such that 2 packs are required for one week’s worth of medication, then $6.00 is charged. Any prescription charges for medication required to fill the Medicopak® are also charged.
